Plastiks and Danone Join Forces to Trace Up to 2,000 Tons of Recycled Plastic per Year

At Plastiks, we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Danone Spain, one of the leading companies in the food and beverage sector, with the aim of promoting a circular economy model and providing full transparency in plastic recovery. Through this partnership, we aim to trace up to 2,000 tons of recovered PET plastic annually using our blockchain technology, as part of Danone’s ReNueva project.

The ReNueva project, launched in 2019 by Danone Spain, is dedicated to recovering PET plastic bottles consumed outside the home, recycling the material, and reintegrating it into its packaging chain as rPET. With our verification technology, we offer full and accessible traceability at every stage of the process, ensuring that the recycled plastic meets the highest standards of transparency.

Borja Lafuente, Director of Public Affairs at Danone Iberia, commented: “At Danone, we work to play an active role in protecting the planet, which is why five years ago we launched ReNueva, a pioneering initiative in the sector and an example of how collaboration with the administration and other entities enables progress toward full circularity of packaging. It helps address current environmental challenges while providing a business solution for obtaining high-quality materials like rPET.”

Blockchain-Based Verification for the Circular Economy

At Plastiks, we believe that the verification of plastic waste recovery and recycling is essential to achieving true circularity. Through our blockchain-based platform, we ensure that every ton of recovered plastic is accurately tracked, offering both consumers and businesses the ability to verify the environmental impact of their decisions.

This partnership enables Danone Spain to further its commitment to reducing the demand for virgin plastic and contributing to its decarbonization plan. Additionally, by using our technology, consumers can access information on the amount of plastic traced and its positive impact through our platform.

In this context, André Vanyi-Robin, CEO of Plastiks, noted: “Collaborating with high-impact companies like Danone Spain and supporting technological initiatives with a positive environmental impact is fundamental for Plastiks. The verification of plastic waste collection and recycling is crucial for ensuring transparency and traceability in sustainability efforts and the implementation of a circular economy using blockchain technology.”

Social and Sustainable Impact

Beyond environmental benefits, the ReNueva initiative has a significant social impact. With two plants located in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona) and Noblejas (Toledo), the project not only supports plastic recovery but also generates employment for 50 vulnerable individuals annually and trains an additional 85 people in waste sorting and recycling processes.

Through this partnership, Plastiks and Danone Spain strengthen their capacity to address the challenges posed by high demand for rPET in the market, generating synergies between public and private actors to develop a more sustainable food industry model.

A More Transparent Future with Plastiks

At Plastiks, we are committed to redefining sustainability through the use of our innovative technology, ensuring that every effort in plastic recovery is verifiable and traceable. Our goal is to provide businesses with the ability to credibly demonstrate their contribution to the circular economy, helping to combat greenwashing and guarantee a truly positive impact.
