Levante UD Partners with Plastiks to Boost Football Sustainability

Levante Unión Deportiva is stepping onto Spain’s top football stage with more than just athletic ambition. After their dramatic promotion back to La Liga, Levante UD is showing they’re ready to lead — both on the field and in sustainability.

Through a new alliance with Plastiks (a Web3 platform for blockchain-verified plastic recovery) and Leonardo GR (a top waste management organization in the Valencian Community), Levante UD becomes one of Spain’s pioneering clubs integrating environmental traceability into football operations. The initiative aims to recover and recycle approximately 100 tons of plastic waste over the season — a commitment that includes both matchday waste and materials generated during major summer events held at the stadium.

Why Is Levante UD Making Headlines for Sustainability?

Levante Unión Deportiva is not just celebrating their dramatic return to La Liga — they are stepping up as a sustainability pioneer.

After a thrilling 3–2 victory over Burgos CF, Levante UD secured promotion back to Spain’s top division, marking a turning point both on and off the pitch. Now, with a renewed platform and national spotlight, the club is determined to lead in environmental innovation.

As André Vanyi-Robin, CEO of Plastiks, explains:

“This partnership is more than just a technological integration; it’s a commitment to redefine how sports organizations take responsibility for their environmental impact. Together, we are proving that sustainability can be measurable, transparent, and scalable — turning plastic recovery into meaningful, verifiable action that benefits both the planet and local communities.”

This vision underpins Levante UD’s strategic partnership with:

  • Plastiks, a Web3 platform specializing in blockchain-based plastic recovery verification, and
  • Leonardo GR, a leading waste management organization in the Valencian Community.

Together, they are implementing a fully traceable plastic waste system — one of the first of its kind in La Liga.

But why does this matter? Because sports clubs today are expected to go beyond performance — they must take real action for the planet.

How Does the Levante UD, Plastiks & Leonardo GR Partnership Work?

This partnership brings together three key players, each with a distinct role:

  • Levante UD provides the platform — opening up its stadium operations to apply a robust, traceable waste management system during every home match at the Estadi Ciutat de València.

  • Leonardo GR takes charge of collecting, sorting, and managing all plastic waste generated at the stadium, ensuring that no recoverable material ends up in landfills.

  • Plastiks applies its blockchain technology to verify and record every kilogram of recovered plastic, converting it into unique, traceable plastic credits backed by real environmental data.

Over the 2025/2026 season, the initiative is expected to recover and recycle approximately 100 tons of plastic waste. This includes not only matchday waste but also material generated during large-scale summer events and concerts hosted at Levante UD’s stadium

The result?

  • Levante UD can monitor its environmental performance transparently and in real time
  • Provide verified data aligned with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting standards
  • Generate additional value by selling plastic credits, turning environmental responsibility into measurable economic and social impact

This model blends innovation and sustainability, setting a new benchmark for sports organizations across Spain.

Why is This Important for La Liga & European Football?

Levante UD’s initiative is not just a club-level achievement — it has broader significance for La Liga, European football, and the sports world at large.

Here’s why this project matters:

  • Setting a Sustainability Precedent : Levante UD is one of the first Spanish football clubs to integrate blockchain technology for environmental traceability. This positions them as a leader and innovator in a space where many clubs still rely on traditional, often opaque, waste management systems.
  • Responding to Stakeholder Expectations: Fans, sponsors, and regulators increasingly expect sports organizations to take measurable action on sustainability. This partnership answers that call by combining environmental responsibility with transparent, verifiable data.
  • Creating a Scalable Model: By demonstrating that even a mid-sized club can implement such an advanced sustainability system, Levante UD opens the door for larger clubs, leagues, and international organizations to follow suit. The model is replicable, scalable, and adaptable across the industry.
  • Aligning Football with Global Goals: Environmental responsibility is no longer just a corporate buzzword — it is tied to global initiatives like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Football, with its massive reach, has the power to accelerate progress on these goals, and Levante UD is showing how.

In short, this project proves that sustainability is not limited to headlines or corporate reports. It can — and should — be integrated into the daily operations of the world’s most beloved sports.

What’s Next for Levante UD and Its Community?

Looking ahead, Levante UD is ready to turn this partnership into long-term, measurable action — setting an example for the entire sports industry.

Key next steps include:
